RULES FOR THE GUILDERLAND YOUTH SOCCER REC PROGRAM

RULES MAY BE UPDATED EACH SEASON

Players on the field and the minimum needed to play a game are subject to change depending on the amount of teams and players. The league will establish the number each season, if necessary.

 

RULE FOR DIVISION FOUR, FIVE AND SIX

 

1 -       The goalkeeper will have six seconds to put the ball back into play. if the goalkeeper is taking too long to release the ball, the referee will inform the goalkeeper to release the ball back into play, if the goalkeeper still persists in holding the ball, and has been cautioned by the referee to get the ball in play, the opposing team will be given an indirect kick from where the goalkeeper was handling the ball, if in the penalty box, the indirect kick will be taken outside the penalty box. The goalkeeper is given enough time to release the ball where a call should not be necessary.

 

2 -       If a player intentionally kicks the ball to their own goalkeeper, the goalkeeper may not use their hands to play the ball.

 

3 -       If a player throws into their own goalkeeper, the goalkeeper may not use their hands to play the ball.

 

NOTE: If the goalkeeper does pick up the ball under the above situations the end result is an indirect kick free kick from where the incident occurred. If the offense occurred in the goal box, an indirect kick will be taken from the six yard line.

 

4 -       For each team the field set up will be ten players plus the goalkeeper.

 

5 -      The minimum amount of players to play the game will be seven (including the goalkeeper); any team with less than seven players will automatically forfeit the game.

 

6 -       There are to be no coaches by the goals or any other persons on the division three, four and five level.

 

7 -       The heading of the ball will be allowed but not recommended.

 

8 -       SUBSTITUTIONS: For divisions 3, 4 and 5, substitutions will be done only when the ball goes out of play. The coach informs the referee they are making a substitution, the player going on will wait at the halfway line, the player coming off will get off the field then the referee singles to the substitute to take up the position and play will resume with the ball going back into play. Any substitution done without notifying the referee will result in a verbal warning and the substitution will take place when the ball goes out of play at the referee’s decision.

RULES FOR DIVISON THREE

 

1 -       The taking of a foul throw will only be done once as per divisions four, five and six.

 

2 -       The six second rule will be enforced where the goalkeeper has six second to get the ball back in play once picked up. if the goal keeper is taking too long, the referee will warn him two times to get the ball in play, if the goalkeeper still delays, it will in an indirect kick from where the goalkeeper has the ball when the referee makes the call, if in the penalty box, it will be taken outside the penalty box. The goal keeper is given enough time where a call should not be made.

 

3 -       Penalty kicks will be called at the division three level.

 

4 -       Offside will be called at the Division Three level.

 

5 -       One Coach from each team may be on the field and No Coaches may be next to the goal they are defending.

 

6 -       The “HEADING” of the ball will not be allowed at Division Three Level. If a ball is headed by a player, it will result in a drop ball, if it is headed in the penalty area, the drop ball will be done outside the penalty box. If a goal is scored by the heading of the ball, the goal will be disallowed and a goal kick will be taken.

 

7 -       For each team the field set up will be 10 players plus the goalkeeper

 

8 -       The minimum amount of players to play the game will be 7 (including the goal­keeper). Any team with less than 7 players will automatically forfeit the game.

9.-If a player intentionally kicks the ball to their own goalkeeper, the goalkeeper may not use their hands to play the ball.

10.-If a player throws in to their own goalkeeper, the goalkeeper may not use their hands to play the ball.

Note: If the goalkeeper does pick up the ball in the above situations, the end result is an indirect kick from where the incident occurred. If the offense occurred in the goal box, an indirect kick will be taken from the six yard line.

 

NOTE:

 

When coaches are on the field, they are allowed ten yards each way from the halfway line and are to only go ten yards into the field. Coaches are to avoid being in the players’ way when they have the ball.

RULES FOR DIVISION TWO

1-   The retake of foul throws will be done three times. On the third try - if it is not done legally the other team will gain possession of the throw-in. Each team will get three tries until it is done legally.

 

2 -       The six second rule for the goalkeeper does not apply at division two level.

 

3 -       No Penalty kicks are taken at division two level. A direct kick is taken from the part of the penalty area line which runs parallel to the goal line, at the point near to where the offense was committed. (Any offense resulting in an indirect free kick will be followed through on)

 

4 -       Offside will not be called at the Division two Level.

 

5 -      One Coach from each team may be on the field and one may be next to the goal where they are defending, but not on the field. (Only one coach can be there, no one else.)

If the ball is headed in the semi circle, a drop ball will be done 3 feet away from the semi circle. If a goal is scored by the heading of the ball, the goal will be disallowed and a goal kick will be taken.

 

7 -       For each team the field set up will be 7 players, NO goalkeeper.

 

8 -       The minimum amount of players to play the game will be five (NO goal­keeper). Any team with less than five players will automatically forfeit the game

SPECIAL RULES FOR THE GUILDERLAND YOUTH SOCCER REC PROGRAM

 

RULES FOR DIVISION K

        THERE WILL BE NO GOALKEEPERS ON K LEVEL

 

1. Retake foul throws until they are done legally.

 

 

2 - No penalty kicks are taken at K level. A direct kick is taken from the part of the penalty-area line which runs parallel to the goal-line, at the point nearest to where the offense was committed. (Any offense resulting in an indirect kick will be followed through on.)

 

3 - Offside will not be called at K level.

 

4 - One coach from each team may be on the field and one may be next to the goal they are defending, but not on the field. (Only the coach can be there, no one else.)

 

5 - The “HEADING” of the ball will not be allowed at k level. If a ball is headed by a player, it will result in a drop ball. If the ball is headed in the semi circle, a drop ball will be done 3 feet from the semi circle. If a goal is scored by the heading of a ball, the goal will be disallowed and a goal kick will be taken.

 

6 - For each team the field set up will be six players

 

7 - The minimum amount of players to play the game will be 4. Any team with less than

4 players will automatically forfeit the game.

 

NOTE:

 

When coaches are allowed on the field, they are to stay out of the center area and

avoid where the ball is in play. Coaches are not to be in the goal or penalty areas.


 

RULES FOR ALL DIVISIONS

 

1.  Coaches may call a safety time-out (2 minutes)

 

2 -       Slide tackles are illegal. The penalty is an indirect free kick, unless the tackler makes contact with an opponent and then it is a direct free kick.

 

3 -       A slide tackle without contact will be a verbal warning, a second slide tackle without contact will be a yellow card, a third slide tackle without contact will be a red card. (This applies to all divisions - DISCRETION will be used in divisions K & I.)

 

4 -       A slide tackle with contact will be a yellow card; a second slide tackle with contact will be a red card. (This applies to all divisions - DISCRETION will be used in divisions K & 1.)

 

5 -      In case of lightning, the game is cancelled immediately.

 

6 -       If the Referee decides the soccer field is too dangerous to play on, (Field very wet and muddy) the game will be cancelled.

 

7 -       Shin guards must be worn by all players; all shin guards must be covered completely by socks - including sock-style shin guards - NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

8 -       No jewelry, watches, non-prescription glasses, hair clips or loose worn articles, hats (except the goal keeper-soft rim). Any pierced jewelry has to be taken off, it can not be taped over.**** Any player who is found with the above mentioned items cannot play until the item(s) are taken off- NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

9 -       Any casts have to be properly padded and checked by the referee for any sharp or protruding parts. If considered unsafe - the player can not play.

 

10 -Substitutions may be done on the fly in divisions K through 3 - but not in the area the ball is being played. Divisions 4 through 6 refer to the special rules for those divisions.

 

11 - There has to be a different goalkeeper in goal each quarter in divisions 2 through 4, (four different goalies per game). There are to be different goalies in each half for divisions 5 and 6 (except in the tournaments - you may use the same goalkeeper as much as you choose).

 

12 - All players should receive equal playing time and rotate through all the positions on the field.
